Fashion film production is focused on working with consumer brands in the retail space. Fashion productions consists of creative crew including, but not limited to a Director, Cinematographer, Photographer, Producer, Art Director, Models, Hair & Make Up Artists (HMU), as well as tech crew, art department and supporting assistants. Days are long and can run up to 16 hours. Fashion films can include long-form narrative storytelling art-films to short, fast-paced social media content, depending on the fashion brand’s video needs. Regardless of length, Fashion Films tend to be trend-setting, artistic and boundary-pushing rather than traditional commercial productions. DAMSEL can produce the creative direction for clients, as well as curate a creative team to deliver original concepts. Commercial productions are often more process based; with creative team working from a client-approved storyboard or shot list. Fashion video production is divided into three stages:
Pre-production, which includes script writing, talent/model casting, preparing the appropriate equipment, location scouting, and budgeting
Production, where all the action takes place including directing, cinematography, sounds and lighting effects, set design, and live streaming
Post-production, involving assembling, editing, and finalising all the content materials obtained to make sure the video is perfectly polished for the audience to engage and consume
